A survey conducted by Deloitte & Touche shows that of 2,081 consumers questioned, 38% watch television shows online, while 36% use their cell phones as entertainment devices, and 45% are creating online content such as websites, videos and blogs. The study, which was conducted between October 25-31 for American consumers, aims to look at the advertising potential of the web, television, and mobile devices.
While the full report hasn’t been released, I’m inclined to wonder what constitutes as mobile entertainment? It’s a rather broad statement to say that consumers use their cell phone as entertainment devices when this could mean that they play games that were pre-loaded on their phones, or that they text message friends using a mobile IM client.
As for the change over time, Deloitte & Touche conducted the same survey between February 23 and March 6, 2007. The results indicate that there’s a steady growth in usage across the three sectors looked at, with varying increases depending on age demographics. Consumers age 25-41 saw the largest increase for mobile entertainment use, up 47%, while those in the 13-24 age bracket saw a similar 46% increase.
As I noted briefly in a previous paragraph, one goal for this survey is to provide useful data to advertisers, as they need to go where the consumers are. So when Deloitte & Touche asked their consumers what type of ads were most effective, an 85% majority found television ads to work best on their buying habits but Internet ads were second best. 65% of the surveyed consumers felt that Internet ads have the most impact, beating out magazine ads, at 63%.
When it’s all said and done, Deloiite & Touche Vice Chairman and national sector leader, Ken August, smartly noted that advertising campaigns will need to have a multi-device strategy. How novel. Considering that this isn’t the only recent study to suggest the actual coming of true mobile social networking, advertisers have been ready for some time, testing the waters with heavily targeted campaigns through networks like AdMob.

Blu-ray mouthpiece Hollywood in Hi-Def has yet another reason to downplay Paramount’s switch to HD DVD, with a new analysts report indicating the format war has continued to go Blu-ray’s way. Understanding & Solutions sees this holiday season as key to both formats, and while there “may be surprises just around the corner” (perhaps at CES?) “we could see a lot more format clarity in 2008″. While they might not be getting a holiday card from the guys at Screen Media Digest (who just said the format war would continue stalemated), we’re sure those holding out for a BD-J release of Transformers feel heartened

Techsoar.com is proud to announce that it has acquired a brand new file host called http://www.dirola.com . We have made some modifications to it that make it somewhat surpass rapidshare. It can upload 250 mb at once while rapidshare can only upload 100 mb at a time. Also since the site is new it uploads at very fast speeds. Also all files uploaded will stay on the server for a full month before getting deleted while for rapidshare you have to pay to keep it up past a week. File hosts are used to either send huge amounts of information to people, used to post a download on your blog, or used to post download links on a forum. Well you get the point. Again the link is http://www.dirola.com . We are looking for everyone to contribute their comments and we will see what we can improve. We are glad to add this site to our network and hope you feel the same way. Also if you didn’t know we also have our own “PERSONAL” image host which can be accesed at http://www.myupload.org . So we have the complete set here with both A file host in dirola.com and an image host at myupload.org
On another note I would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR! and wish you a prosperous new year. Thanks and I hope you enjoy my blog.

Maybe we just turn a bit sentimental during the holiday season, but damn it, we’ll admit to getting a little choked up over reader Claude M’s well-planned, uber-geeky proposal to his girlfriend — even if his method of choice did happen to employ the totally overexposed iPhone. Being the romantic fellow that he is, Claude spent what must have been numerous hours producing a video proposal in the style of those ubiquitous commercials — as you can see after the break — and then screened it for his sweetheart (probably on his or her you-know-what) while they were strolling around the area where they’d first met in college. We’d like to congratulate the happy couple — she said yes, duh — and encourage them to race over to our Christmas contest post, where they have decent odds of scoring a pair of round trip tickets for the honeymoon.

Granted, you could go out and drop ten bones to grab a pre-fabricated electronic rock-paper-scissors game, but seriously, where’s the fun in that? The real elation comes when you actually build the thing yourself, or at least that’s the idea followed by one particular DIY’er. Needless to say, the actual functionality here is self-explanatory, but if you’re interested in concocting one of these for personal use (you know, for times when none of your buds are tired / inebriated enough to participate), head on over to the read link.

Considering the multitude of Bluetooth headsets out there which claim to be the smallest this world has to offer, we’re not apt to believe that ADTEC’s AD-HSM10 is actually the most diminutive, regardless of what the firm promises. Nevertheless, this wee earpiece is indeed tiny, and since this little bugger only weighs five grams, you might just forget it’s even resting in your ear canal. Reportedly, it can last through three solid hours of yappin’ (or 100 hours in standby), and just in case you’re not down with silver, there’s also a titanium version out there. ‘Course, it needn’t be mentioned just how similar this thing is to Motorola’s Miniblue H9, but regardless, those interested can snag one of their own in late January for ¥8,980 ($78).

Here at Engadget HD, we aren’t ones to cover the adult film industry with any semblance of regularity, but when Digital Playground announces that it will indeed be going format neutral, it’s hard to ignore. If you’ll recall, it looked as if both high-definition formats could be green-lit to carry porn, but in an “eleventh-hour move” by Digital Playground, it chose to back HD DVD exclusively instead. According to founder Joone, the original decision came down to cost, as he noted that putting a title out on Blu-ray was simply more expensive. Nevertheless, reports are claiming that the studio will begin shipping its famed Pirates film on BD early next year, and at least for now, it will be “releasing to both formats until there is a clear-cut winner.”

Good news for Comcast users across the nation (and particularly for those in the Southeast): it seems the firm’s recent HD expansion efforts are affecting more areas than just Washington, D.C. and South Carolina. Based on user reports originating in Jacksonville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia, the channels added to the DC / SC lineups have made their way to the Peach and Sunshine states. For those needing a refresher, that includes USA HD, TLC HD, History Channel HD, Sci-Fi HD, CNN HD, Animal Planet HD and Discovery Channel HD. Additionally, it sounds as if ATLiens are also being blessed with Travel Channel HD, but we’ve nothing official to back that up with just yet. So, with more of the US getting all these newcomers, have any of you Comcast users in other locales seen additions in your EPG? Let’s hear it!

MoDazzle is one way in particular to mobilize your social networks, specifically LinkedIn, Facebook, Salesforce and a couple others. Using email addresses and SMS short codes, there are ways in which you can access a variety of features on these supported social networks.

For instance, you can look up a LinkedIn contact by emailing the search request to MoDazzle, or you can access your unread Facebook messages by sending MoDazzle a request via SMS. Other options for Facebook support include the ability to poke other users, check a friend’s online status, read your wall, or post to a wall. Aside from granting access to your various social networking tools, there are other search tools, like Google Maps, ZoomInfo, Starbucks (in case you really need a shot of espresso), Yelp for restaurant reviews, flight updates, and weather.
While I’m supportive of furthered integration of tools into email and SMS, MoDazzle seems to have taken a somewhat sprawled approach to providing you with mobile access to these various networks and search tools. Each task for each network or resource has its own SMS code and email address. This can make for a rather cumbersome search tactic or access portal, even if each contact is saved in your email client or your mobile phone. Just glancing over the user guide for each tool is daunting, so I can only imagine that trying to remember which contact goes with which task can take some getting used to while scrolling through your contact list.
Even still, MoDazzle wold only be more useful for those lacking mobile browsing. With networks like Facebook already providing a pretty useful mobile extension, along with most of the other tools supported by MoDazzle, it may be far easier to access the optimized networks provided in an independent manner. Likewise, there are several mobile package tools, like Widsets or Mobio, that give you a more comprehensive approach to accessing certain information in a mobile manner.
